The name “Keerweder” is derived from an old Afrikaans-Dutch word for “return” and refers to a place of hospitality to which one wants to return over and over again: a true place of many happy returns, of homecoming and healing. Our home away from home” is situated in a quiet location in the town of Riebeek West on the slope of Kasteelberg with stunning views of the Riebeek Valley as well as the Kasteelberg and with easy access to all the amenities of the valley. Once you arrive here everything slows down and brings you in touch with the gentle flow of rural life.

Our five luxury double rooms are set in a lush garden filled with the song of a variety of birds in the huge trees around the house. All rooms are equipped with 100% cotton linen and towels and a coffee/tea station with homemade rusks. Each room has a separate private entrance and direct access to the garden and its own private patio. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. Ample secure parking is available on the premises. There are electric blankets and overhead fans to enable a comfortable stay.

You have a choice between three options:

  • Our house with three bedrooms (equipped with queen-sized beds) and two bathrooms is an ideal space for families, couples or friends who want to share time together or celebrate friendship. There are a total of 5 different patios where you can either have a view over the valley, the swimming pool or the mountain at the back. You will have sole use of the pool, braai area, a huge kitchen and living space. The house has a big library of books and is well insulated against the hot summers. There is also a built-in fireplace for winter.
  • The second option is our studio equipped with a queen-sized bed kitchenette and Weber braai. The bed is a lovely slay bed and the studio opens to your private porch where you can listen to the birds and enjoy the beautiful garden. The studio can also open to the house or can be used as a separate space. The en-suite bathroom has a shower and toilet, a dining area as well as comfortable chairs.
  • The third option is our cottage which is private and equipped with a built-in braai, bath, shower, toilet, fully functioning kitchenette and own private garden and patio. There is a table outside as well as inside the cottage as well as comfortable chairs.

The Riebeek Valley is renowned for its excellent wines, craft beers, olive groves and Swartland hospitality. It is popular for tourism, outdoor activities, and arts and crafts. It boasts numerous restaurants, wedding venues and venues for wine and olive tasting. It is host to an annual Olive Festival in autumn and an annual Solo Studios event showcasing the art of local artists.

Riebeek West itself is an easy 75 km drive northeast of Cape Town and 5 km north of its twin town Riebeek Kasteel in the Swartland area of the Western Cape in South Africa. Riebeek West was the birthplace of two successive South African Prime Ministers. General Jan Christiaan Smuts was born on the farmBovenplaats, two km north of Riebeek West. Daniel François Malan was born on the farm Allesverloren, which borders the town on the southern side.
