The Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve is situated on the farm Erfdeel, a fully working farm with interesting farm tours. With that comes certain treatments to orchards that have to be done at night – all part of a working farm and a completely different experience… real adventure style! 

Our mission is conservation through utilisation. We want to give more people the opportunity to walk in nature and experience the wondrous creation.

The Goatherder House is over 100 years old, which makes it the oldest building on the farm. It has been restored to its original design, but for your comfort, we have installed a hot water shower and flush toilet, but no electricity.

Staying here, you will not see or hear any of our other guests, for this house is very much on its own, situated at the foot of the Matroosberg mountain. This house can sleep 6 people, is fully equipped, with bedding, towels and crockery. It is also fitted with a gas fridge and hotplate. The inside fireplace where all the cooking was done in yesteryear, is now a very popular spot in the house and makes for a great indoor braai.

If a romantic cabin with an indoor fireplace and no electricity is your idea of an idyllic breakaway, this one adds to the surprise, with a handmade Crystallite Nature Bath. The name of this charming cabin is 50 Shades of Green, for when you look around you, all you see is different shades of nature…
