Wheatlands is in the heart of the Karoo in the Graaff-Reinet district. It is a beautiful working farm steeped in 8 generations of family history
Wheatlands Country House offers comfortable accommodation for up to 10 people (5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms). The “Big House”, as it is known to the family, was built in 1912 by Arthur Tucker Parkes for his wife Lily during the ostrich feather boom. The house boasts high, pressed ceilings, wood-paneled walls, beautiful handcrafted stained glass windows, book-lined corridors, and antiques that have been collected through the generations. Snuggle up in a corner with a book and enjoy the house’s peaceful atmosphere, go for a walk in the veld and appreciate the natural beauty of your surroundings or put your feet up in front of a roaring log fire.
Wheatlands farm produces wool and mohair from Merino sheep and Angora goats. Your visit may well coincide with shearing where you can watch them being skillfully shorn for their fleeces.
